Discovering that I like Beer…sort of

A few weeks back my big brother and sister-in-law came up to visit me from Texas and we went to a couple of breweries around where I live. Now I would be the first to say I don’t like beer. I don’t the way it smells and have always thought it was bitter. But I decided to at least try some different things when we were out. The first night we went out was to listen to a friend’s Bluegrass band and I tried a Cranberry Gose with ginger ale that was made at the brewery. It was so yummy.

We went out to another brewery a few days later and we tried a “flight” of the beers they brew. It was so many different and interesting kinds and I discovered I preferred the darker beers, they tasted more coffee like or with hints of chocolate.

Then when I talked to my other brother, who is younger, on his birthday I was really interested in the different types of beer he is brewing personally. It sounds like a really interesting subject with so many different things to try and to learn about. Alot like cooking. So now I find myself reading articles on line and wondering if I might like to try my hand at it.

  2. Fantastic write!! I too have discovered that I like some beers when I’m out…. for some reason I’ve been trying different beers lately. Some of them are yummy. I had chocolate beer not to long ago…. I’ve been looking for it again lately, it was so good.

  3. All I ever did with beer is bake bread with it (stouts, mostly ). I really don’t like much of any beer, but there are some hard ciders that are really good (J K’s scrumpie is delicious and made in the Flint area). I also love the raspberry Lindemann’s-it’s a beer made in the style of champagne, if memory serves. I just don’t like bitter, hoppy, or any “beer”. But that’s just me.

    1. Ohh I need to check out Cider. We have a Cidery here in town. In fact we found it one night when we went for a walk. Once the weather warms up I want to go back. I liked the fruity beers lol. Not a big fan of the American style lagers though.
