Coffee in the mornings

Lately the days are becoming a little cooler in the morning and my walk to work is dropping into the 50’s so I’ve been drinking coffee in the mornings. Is it because the light is changing and the sun coming up later? Who knows, but it brought up an interesting conversation at work because I made the coffee the last few days and not our receptionist. She got in a little late which gave me the opportunity to try a different coffee then she makes. I also took the time to clean the pot out which she says she doesn’t do because she thinks of it is as seasoning. I think of it as gross. Before I brought up any of that she mentioned the coffee was stronger. I guess at 45 I like my coffee a little stronger, darker and richer. She likes it unsweetened with just almond milk so I can see where making a stronger pot might be something she isn’t into. Then I mentioned that I had cleaned the pot out because it had brown, caked on left over coffee, which I find off putting but she thought it was just seasoning. Umm no. You season a cast iron pan not coffee pots. I think brewed coffee is best with clear, cold water. A clean carafe and a dark, strong coffee roast. Don’t get me wrong, I like half and half with a bit of sugar in my coffee but I can also drink it black. I can drink it any temp and she has to keep it hot, which she does by microwaving it. Also a big no-no for me. Maybe I’m a coffee snob because I ran a coffee shop for a number of years but then again I also worked in kitchens for 20 years and we drank our coffee when we could no matter the temp. So I guess as long as I’m getting to work before her, she is drinking my stronger coffee and liking it. ♥
