Church Windows #2

In my blog yestereday I promised the recipe for the cookies and here it is written in my Aunt Alice’s handwriting. I’m also going to type it.

Church Window Cookies

  • 1 stick of Oleo ( margarine is what most people call it. I bought Imperial)
  • 12 ounce package of chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of coconut
  • 1 package of miniature colored marshmallows

I don’t think that butter would work well in this recipe but if you can’t stand the thought of margarine go ahead and try. Otherwise go ahead and melt the oleo over a double boiler and add the chocolate stirring until melted. It then says to cool. It doesn’t say how long, but I would say probably long enough that the mixture doesn’t melt the marshmallows but isn’t ice cold. Then it says to add in nuts and marshmallows but the recipe doesn’t call for nuts and I don’t remember nuts so I skipped that. Once you have everything mixed in, shape the mixture into a loaf and roll it in coconut, then chill over night. Slice and serve. I would try a few slices until you find the right thickness. Not to thin or you can’t pick them up to eat them. Not to thick because that would be a lot of marshmallows. Play with the first few slices to get the desired thickness.

I don’t remember these cookies having coconut and my husband doesn’t like it so I am going to cut my loaf in half and roll half in the coconut and half with out. The object here is that when you slice the cookies the marshmallows are supposed to act like stained glass. I’m a little nervous to try them but excited as well.

Last night I got a package from Michigan with all of my Grandma’s recipes and I’m so excited to open it up and go through everything and I’m sure I’ll have lots to share in the coming days. ♥
